Festive Pearl Choker in Purple by ValliyanWhere are all the ‘90s gals at?! Today, we’re covering one of the decade’s most timeless fashion trends, which has been making a big comeback over the last few years: the choker trend.

We are all about this edgy neckpiece that comes in so many different shapes, styles, and sizes. But how do you choose the right choker necklace for your ensemble? Below, we’re sharing a few tips and tricks for styling your statement chokers!

Tips for Selecting the Perfect Choker Style

There are a few things to keep in mind when selecting your choker style.

  • Neck Length: Ideally, you want your neck to appear longer. If you have a shorter neck, we recommend sticking with thin chokers that won’t make your neck look shorter. If your neck is longer, you can get away with chunkier/thicker chokers.
  • Neckline: Consider the neckline of your top or dress. Thin chokers that sit right on the neck will look best with high necklines, while open or plunging necklines allow for more ornate chokers with room for longer strands and embellishments.
  • Outfit Colors & Patterns: Finally, what colors or patterns are you wearing? If your top or dress is a solid color, you can get away with a choker with a bit more glitz and glamor (think thicker with multi-colored stones, more detail, etc.). If your outfit already features multiple colors or a detailed pattern, however, you’ll want to err on the side of simplicity. Opt for single-colored metals and gems that will add a touch of sparkle without clashing with your clothing.

Longer Layers

As we all know, layered necklaces are totally in right now. For truly dramatic glamour, layer your favorite choker over a few long statement necklaces. Choose two to three additional strands of different lengths to really add some dimension to your necklace style.

Choker Stack

If you haven’t seen us talk about it before, we love the choker stack here at Sarbani NYC. There’s nothing like a couple of glimmering chokers to create a perfectly fashionable look. When stacking chokers, we recommend matching metals and stones.

Mixed Stones & Metals

Another rising trend, mixing metals and stones is another great way to style your chokers and necklaces. The key to mixing metals is to make sure there is enough of a contrast. For example, pair gold with silver or rose gold with gunmetal, but don’t wear both gold and rose gold together. When wearing various colored gems in one ensemble, ensure they are matching hues or similar shades.

The primary thing to keep in mind when mixing stones and metals: Choose pieces with the same aesthetic for a cohesive style.
